Do I need to have a mental illness to see a counsellor and psychotherapist?
Seeing a counsellor and psychotherapist does not mean you are ill. Many people use counselling services when they are interested in enhancing their quality of life, seeking self understanding, or when they need support dealing with life changes. Some people feel "stuck" and seek psychotherapy to work through this feeling.

How long does each session last?

Each session is approximately 55 minutes in length.

Do I need a referral from my GP?
You do not need a referral from your GP.

Do you offer Medicare rebates?
Unfortunately I do not provide Medicare rebates at this time.

What will happen in my first counselling session?
In the first session I will ask you about your current problem and I will take a history of the issues you are experiencing.

Are the sessions confidential?
Yes. By law you have the right to confidentiality. I ensure I comply with professional and legal requirements to maintain your privacy and confidentiality. Legal limits to confidentiality will be explained in the first session.

How many sessions do I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on your circumstances, your needs, and expectations. Some people seek short term therapy to learn to manage uncomfortable symptoms, whilst others prefer long term therapy to enhance wellness and prevent problems over a longer period of time.
